Well, I'm not fully agree with a critique about cropping photo is not really cool for me... because in my opinion, photo is the result of human device called camera that mimic the God camera, eyes and brain.
I'm not a photographer and I'm not professional artist, but I love the arts, including photography, so when my eyes see the scenery or any beautiful things, that bring me to a thought with my brain... I want it being capture as real I see, with human device so I can tell the other about my joyful about that things. Simply because I can not do telepathy, I guess it's only fiction tough. haha..
So, since the photo title is "London" so it's must be London, and we absolutely need the London scenery. It's really important, especially for the one who never know London, like me. I know London only from picture and TV news. So when I see the tower, I was like, "Oh, it's London." and then, after that I begin to explore the photo more.
The little girl figure guides my eyes to the different color from the background that makes a gloomy sensation, old fashion feeling. the girl with blue flowery jacket, it's kind of telling me the big gap between adult world and childhood time. human can change that much just by the time tough they are always in the same place, under the same London sky.
I nearly can imagine how is the little girl in young lady form in business suit.. and all the adult gloomy feeling, feeling bored about the everyday routine. and this little girl in blue jacket picture is her inner child who is missed the memory.
I don't know if the photographer actually felt this or not, but, for me, I get the thought... I'm almost 27 and I missed my childhood time sometimes.
This photo is nice, i don't complain about the technique since it using nice camera (greater pixel camera for more clear photo right?) and quite clear in lighting no need studio lighting for street photography or any Photoshop-ing, so I call that good technique. But since human always has mistake, the perfect one only the God, I give this photo 4,5 stars ^-^
and luckily the sky is cloudy at that time so i get the gloomy effect impression
Vision in photo is like when your eyes catch a scenery or scene sometimes, somewhere. no matter how the photo is taken, the street photo always good for me. different time and angles always makes different sense.
It's original, since i believe it was taken by the photographer, the same person who upload this to dA, because the street photo actually is not doing with plan i guess. maybe for the idea, perhaps not only 1 person has the same picture theme, somehow it's just happen that way. but the result will not ever be the same.
What I see here is not only a color-wearing girl, but a girl completely out of the ordinary of London-style: playful, non-business-like, etc.
I absolutely love the dark buildings that contrast with the little girl. I don't know if you ever play with your photos (by editing, I mean) but if you do, I would suggest lowering the contrast of the image so the little girl is the only contrasting point. Actually, I take that back. I would darken the sky a bit, and leave the rest of the photo unmanipulated. But I would only do that if I were you, because I don't edit my photos except to make them either black and white or sepia.
I guess what I'm trying to say that the little girl is not contrasting to the colors, but rather to the attitude of the rest of the piece. I like what you did here.
